Welcome to Vanspec!
A few years ago I met Sr. Kathy Stark, DSMP in a ministry fair where I was very impressed with all the crafts displayed in the Vanspec booth. Sr. Kathy had created and made them to help her students get to know Jesus and Mary. She made a giant wooden Rosary which enabled the special needs students to touch the bead and simply guide them to say: “Mary, I love you” and continued on the next bead, until the time to say the Our Father, then she would lead the child to say: “Jesus, I love you.” It was a short encounter with Sr. Kathy and Vanspec but it left a very deep impression in my heart.
Some time passed and then I met Sr. Rhonda Brown, DSMP at a Faith Night Out evening. We quickly became friends. She re-introduced me to Vanspec. I was privileged to witness her wonderful work during her evening class, and the rest is history. That night, I experienced first-hand the joy of delivering the word of God to someone special in a very simple way and witnessed how the student was able to grasp the heart of the lesson.
That was a special night for me as I realized that there are people with golden hearts around us who would generously share their talents and time to be the instrument of God to make possible for the children of God with special needs to know Jesus and Mary by introducing them to the Sacraments.
These are all the wonderful volunteers of Vanspec past and current here at the main centre or at our site centres in various parishes. They work tirelessly and joyfully for these special children of God. Thank you!
The Daughters of St. Mary of Providence had planted a good seed and it is an honor to carry on the magnificent works that they had started, thank you Sisters! And with God’s grace we shall continue to make possible for all so that they too may know.
God bless you,
